Minor cuts and grazes are common occurrences for children and can be safely treated at home to help relieve pain, prevent infection and encourage rapid tissue healing, as well as minimize any scarring. Adults can follow the same advice. A deep cut however should be given medical attention.
If you have had a caesarean section, or any operation or surgical incision and would like to speed up the healing process and reduce the appearance of the scar see 'Healing' and 'Scars' below. MSM is fine to take if you are breastfeeding.
Cleaning - wash the area with diluted 'Tea Tree Oil' - see Essential Oils.
Antiseptic - apply either 'Hypericum & Calendula Cream' or 'Manuka Honey 18+' directly to the area, if you do not need to cover the wound (it is a powerful healing agent) - see First Aid for all these products.
Dressing - if you do need to dress a wound the revolutionary 'ApiNate Dressings' combine absorbent alginate (seaweed) fibres with UMF® Active Manuka Honey to give a superior dressing which has all the attributes of the ideal wound dressing. For children use the 'Dr Greenfingers (Calendula) Patch-Up Plasters' with 'Bravery Award' stickers - follow the First Aid link above.
Healing - organic sulphur (MSM) is important for the formation of connective tissue. It can be taken on its own or in the skin supplement below.
A good multivitamin and mineral supplement with zinc is very important to strengthen skin and aid healing. Try the specially formulated skin supplement 'Ultra Skin Plus' with glucosamine (from fish), MSM and therapeutic levels of vitamins A, C, E & zinc. Vegetarians can use the 'Ultra Skin' formula and add vegetarian 'MSM' separately - see Skin Hair & Nails for all these supplements.
For babies and young children see Multi-Vitamins for Babies & Children. If you are pregnant see For Pregnancy for prenatal formulas and take MSM separately before and after an operation such as a caesarian section. For multivitamin and mineral formulas to use all year round and for long-term health and wellbeing - see Multi-Vitamins.
Scars - 'Rosa Mosqueta oil' can significantly improve the skin. Apply only once the wound has healed. It can also be used for stretch marks and is fine to use during pregnancy. The same applies to 'Aloe Vera Gel' which is soothing and healing - see Gels & Oils.
